How much would you pay for a zebra skin rug?
Heya! There's an estate sale three hours from here tomorrow that has an authentic zebra skin rug for sale. I'm very interested in it for my library/wunderkammer room but I have no idea how much they go for. I've called them up and they say it's for sale for $2000. How much do these typically go for? Is this a bargain or incredibly high priced? How much would you pay or NOT pay for one?

Thank you!

it depends on the quality of it. A really nice rug would go for that much or more. But if it's old or in disrepair than I don't think it's worth anything like that.

Mmmm...quality is going to be a deciding factor. Paperwork - was this an animal slaughtered (oops, mean shot) by the original homeowner who has documentation, pictures, etc.. Also, rug backing and size.

Decent skin rugs go for $1500 and under. Faux zebra which is cowhide dyed with stripes go for $400 and under.

I'm pretty sure you don't need documentation unless it's one of the lesser endangered species. Zebras are hunted pretty frequently and only a few of the species are endangered.

NO DO NOT BUY IT. that's crazy. I bought my Grade A rug for $500 off craigslist. just be patient, you'll get one cheaper. There's one for $1000 by me in Minneapolis.

They should never go above $1500.

ive seen them even for around $400(if the zebra had a lot of scarring or theres rips in the rugs). i would look for a 'good' one to buy for around $500-600. they do and will come up.
